Debian-Edu/Skolelinux takes security very seriously. Our distribution is based on Debian GNU/Linux, but we also have some pieces of software that we maintain ourself. Because of that, we have a security-team that patches and rebuilds the software we maintain ourselves if security-bugs are reported.
In order to receive information about the latest Debian security updates, you should subscribe to the debian-security-announce mailing list.
The Debian-Edu/Skolelinux security team will announce security updates that are spesific to Skolelinux/Debian-Edu (not the general ones from Debian) on our mailing lists. So you should subscribe to either the bruker, linuxiskolen, debian-edu-french or debian-edu mailing list.
You can use apt to easily get the latest security updates. This requires two lines such as
deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib non-free
deb ftp://ftp.skolelinux.org/skolelinux etch local
in your /etc/apt/sources.list
file. Now you have to
run apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
on a regulare
basis to keep your system updated.
We try to use as many packages as possible from the Debian stable archive, but in some cases we have to build our own packages or use packages from testing or unstable.
