Programs such as Celestia and Tux Racer depend on software support for the 3D-capacity of your graphics card. We have two questions:
The answer to the first question is presumably yes if you bought your graphics card after 1999.
The answer to the second question is more complicated. Some graphics cards work out-of-the-box with Linux, while others require software support from the manufacturer to achieve their full functionality. Among the latter are usually the latest cards made by ATI and NVidia.
